Annie Leibovitz

Some of the most impressive photographs of the world’s most influential, and powerful women, have been photographed by Annie. Liebovitz once was the person who created some of the most stunning and controversial photos for the Rolling Stone. Her new series, in San Francisco, are a continuation of Annie's series from 1999, called "Women." She chose to have her exhibit in San Francisco because of her strong emotional ties with the city; she had majored in painting in the San Francisco art institute. Admission is indeed free, but booking in advanced in strongly recommended to avoid long lines. The last date that the exhibit will be open is April 17th.

Baltimore Riots

Devin Allen was just a kid from Baltimore who has had his fair share of misfortunes. With him only being 27, you'd be surprised to hear that he has had to bury more than 20 of his friends. Devin lost his two best friends all within one weekend. He claims that photography has literally saved his life, since he was supposed to be with his best friends when they died, but he ended up taking photos instead. “If it wasn’t for photography, I would probably be in a casket. Once I lost those guys, it changed me forever.” This is when Devin realized that he wanted to dive deep into his photography, and to just focus on his passion, no more street life. 

When Devin head about Freddie Gray's death in police custody, on April 19^th, 2015, it was through a text he had received “My mind was racing when the protests began, because no one really understands Baltimore, most people see the riots … but they don’t understand the pain that caused those riots and caused that uprising."  As soon as Devin heard of this story he grabbed his camera, he knew the reporter's showing up to Baltimore would not report the incident without bias, so he was determined to be that guy. Even though the people were rioting, Devin saw many people come together to help clean up Baltimore, he claims that he even saw Bloods and Crips working together. One of the photo's that Devin tweeted out gained a lot a popularity within a few hours, the one Time chose to put on their cover. Celebrities even used Devin's photos in order to post online and show their support for Baltimore.

Not only is Devin an influential guy, by choosing to photograph something like the Baltimore riots without bias, but he also a good photographer. Time wouldn't choose a low quality photo to put on the front cover of their magazine. The article on flickr starts with the sort of "bad" photos, meaning the photos with police violence and civilians causing damage, but the photos towards the bottom will inspire you.

A Picture of my Cousin's Dog

The main subject of this photo is my cousin's dog, Codie. I took this picture while waiting for her boyfriend to finish working on my breaks, for my car. I just remembered taking a really nice photo of Codie this summer, so good she made it her phone background and her cover photo on Facebook. So now I just take photos of him, trying to take more great photos. I like the angle of this photo, and the fact that we're looking at Codie from the same level that he is at. I feel like this photo is sort of dull when it comes to color, so maybe throwing on a great filter could be some improvement. 

To improve this photo all that I did was add a yellow filter, and when I felt that wasn't enough change to the color I also toyed with the saturation a little. My main goal was to just make Codie's colors stand out more. 

Yet Another Cat Photo

I feel like this photo should be impressive all because of the perfect timing it took to take this, thank god I spend most of my time with my animals taking pictures of them, because I'd never get photos tied like this without taking up all my time waiting for the opportunity. This photo focuses attention on my cat, Bear, and it does this by letting him take up the majority of the frame, there isn't much room for anything else in the picture. The main reason that this photo works because he is turned, halfway, facing the camera. This is yet another photo that is a over exposed and things other than the subject are brighter than they should be.

I improved this photo by making it less exposed, and I also made the reds redder.
